Part 1: The Man
Genesis 2:4-9, 15- 24
2:4-9
“These are the records of the heavens and the earth, concerning their creation. At the time that the LORD God made the earth and the heavens, no shrub of the field had yet grown on the land, and no plant of the field had yet sprouted, for the LORD God had not made it rain on the land, and there was no man to work the ground. But mist would come up from the earth and water all the ground. Then the LORD God formed the man out of the dust from the ground and breathed the breath of life into his nostrils, and the man became a living being.
The LORD God planted a garden in Eden, in the east, and there he placed the man he had formed. The LORD God caused to grow out of the ground every tree pleasing in appearance and good for food, including the tree of life in the middle of the garden, as well as the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.”
2:15-24
“The LORD God took the man and placed him in the garden of Eden to work it and watch over it. And the LORD God commanded the man, ‘You are free to eat from any tree of the garden, but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for on the day you eat from it, you will certainly die.’ Then the LORD God said, ‘It is not good for man to be alone. I will make a helper corresponding to him.’ The LORD God formed out of the ground every wild animal and every bird of the sky, and brought each to the man to see what he would call it. And whatever the man called a living creature, that was its name. The man gave names to all the livestock, to the birds of the sky, and to every wild animal; but for the man no helper was found corresponding to him. So the LORD God caused a deep sleep to come over the man, and he slept. God took one of his ribs and closed the flesh at that place. Then the LORD God made the rib he had taken from the man into a woman and brought her to the man. And the man said: This one, at last, is bone of my bone and flesh of my flesh; this one will be called ‘woman’ for she was taken from the man. This is why a man leaves his father and mother and bonds with his wife, and they become one flesh. Both the man and his wife were naked, yet felt no shame.”
1. God Created What You Needed, Before You Needed It
- Genesis 2:1
“So the creation of the heavens and the earth and everything in them was completed.”
- Genesis 2:4-5
“This is the account of the creation of the heavens and the earth. When the LORD God made the earth and the heavens, neither wild plants nor grains were growing on the earth. For the LORD God had not yet sent rain to water the earth, and there were no people to cultivate the soil.”
- In a season where you are trusting the LORD for something. When you know that you are about to be brought into a new season of your life, be reassured that God is preparing a place for you before He takes you there. (John 14:2-6)
- God had to create creation for Adam before He created Adam himself, otherwise where would God put Adam if there was no creation.
- Be patient in waiting for God to bring you into your next season (Psalms 37:7)
2. When There Was No Man to Work the Ground–God Made Man
- Genesis 2:7
“Then the LORD God formed the man from the dust of the ground. He breathed the breath of life into the man’s nostrils, and the man became a living person.”
- God made a place available for the man and God made the man available for the work.
- You have value and are a masterpiece in the Kingdom of God and were created for a purpose (Ephesians 2:10)
- God will make you available for the work He set out for you to do, also equipping you for such a time as this. (Preparation seasons before you’re brought into the working season).
3. God Places & Provides for the Man
- Genesis 2:8-10,15
“Then the LORD God planted a garden in Eden in the east, and there he placed the man he had made. The LORD God made all sorts of trees grow up from the ground–trees that were beautiful and produced delicious fruit. In the middle of the garden he placed the tree of life and the tree of knowledge of good and evil. A river flowed from the land of Eden, watering the garden and then dividing into four branches; The LORD God placed the man in the Garden of Eden to tend and watch over it.
- God made sure that there was provision for the man when He placed the man. Also making sure that the man had work available for him, otherwise the man would have nothing to do. God gave the man work and He gave the man authority over all creation (Genesis 2:19-20)
- God is so gracious. He didn’t have to make anything for the man, and he didn’t even have to make us. But He loves us so much He did make us and He still provides for us. (Matthew 6:26)
God will have everything ready for you and will place you there in its time. Providing all that you need as you work and take care of where He has placed you

4. God Created Barriers and Restrictions for Our Protection
- Genesis 2:15-17
“The LORD God placed the man in the Garden of Eden to tend and watch over it. But the LORD God warned him, “You may freely eat the fruit of every tree in the garden–except the tree of knowledge of good and evil. If you eat its fruit, you are sure to die.”
- (Romans 6:23)
- Just like a good Father, you may put a gate up in your house so your child doesn’t go where they shouldn’t. Or you may baby proof your cabinets or your refrigerator so your child doesn’t go making a mess, or eat something they shouldn’t. God does not tempt man, He didn’t tell Adam this so he could run and eat of the tree’s fruit. God warned Adam not to do this for good reason, to protect us. (James 1:13-16)
God’s restriction is not unreasonable. He did it to protect us. Listen when the LORD says to wait or when He says not to do something. He is your protector.

5. God Made a Helper That Was Tailored Specifically for the Man
- Genesis 2:18-22
“Then the LORD God said, ‘It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper who is just right for him.’ So the LORD God formed from the ground all the wild animals and all the birds of the sky. He brought them to the man to see what he would call them, and the man chose a name for each one. He gave names to all the livestock, all the birds of the sky, and all the wild animals. But still there was no helper just right for him. So the LORD God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep. While the man slept, the LORD God took out one of the man’s ribs and closed up the opening. Then the LORD God made a woman from the rib, and he brought her to the man.”
- The man and the woman, both, had no idea the plans God had for them. God did not go step-by-step with them telling them what He was doing while He was making the woman. Adam fell into a deep sleep and when he woke up, the woman was already created and was brought to him.
- Sometimes you may feel as though God is silent or He isn’t with you, but this is not true because He will never leave us nor forsake us (Forsake means to leave entirely or to abandon) (Hebrews 13:5)
- God is not going to bring you something that is incomplete or not ready. God will finish what He started. There are preparations and training that we must go through to be ready and complete and whole, before we are brought into our next season, to receive what God brings to us. God will bring it to us, as we fully trust in Him.
- Adam had to complete a stage of the work that God placed him in Eden for. He had to work and name the wildlife, before the woman was created and brought to him.
- God will bring to you what you need. God sees what you need. God saw that the man needed a helper that was tailored specifically for the man. God is the one who created and brought the woman. The woman did not go on her own to the man. God brought her. The man also, may have not been seeking the woman, for he may not have known to even look for her, but God brought her to him in a time that God knew the man needed her.
